How to Make Money Blogging

by A.D Paterson on 12/09/2009

These days more people are trying to find ways to make money blogging, especially with the way the economy is at the moment. However, a lot of them miss out because they aren’t doing some of the essential correctly.

It’s a great feeling to see a flood of blog traffic, but, are you making the most of it? Too many bloggers fail to take full advantage of the people they get coming to their blog each day; not only that, the things that are stopping them from making serious money are usually easily remedied.

In this article we’re going to look at four key things you should be consistently doing if your aim is to get blog traffic, and make money blogging.

1. Keep your blog updated. Blogging is a great way of getting traffic to your site but, it still takes some effort on your part. Fresh content that’s unique and full of keywords helps to bring in the blog traffic.

Blog traffic is the life blood of your blog, without it the blog dies, and so does the potential to make money blogging. If you can’t post something daily then look at posting something every couple of days, just keep adding fresh content as often as possible each week.

It may take some time and effort, but if it generates you a lot of potential customers, it’ll be worth it in the end.

2. Try to be interesting. If you can’t grab the attention of the people you’re trying to appeal to, then you’re in trouble.

Find out as much as you can about your target audience so that you’ll know what they want to see on your site, in fact, that is essential, even if it’s just so you can put the right keywords in your posts.

What the blog posts say will largely depend on the blog traffic you’re trying to attract. You probably won’t need to have long, highly technical, over complicated posts if that’s not the sort of thing the ‘local under water knitting’ niche, that you’re trying to appeal to, is all about.

Find out what they want to read about, and then give it to them. If they find your posts to be of value they’ll keep coming back – which is vital if you’re going to make money blogging.

3. Make the most of your keywords. You’ll have spent a considerable amount of time trying to work out the type of keywords, or keyword phrase that people will be typing into the search engines to find sites in your niche – don’t waste that research time.

Use the keywords in the titles of the posts and in the names of the categories, too. All of these count when the search engines come to your blog to index it. The title of the post will also be important because it’s one of the first things people see in the search engines.

If you have a title that has the keywords they’ve typed in, and those keywords give an accurate description of what the post is about, you’re not only going to rank well, people are going to click on your link because it looks as though it meets all the requirements that they’re searching for.

This will give you a highly targeted flow of blog traffic, and makes the job of trying to make money blogging that much easier.

4. Monetize the blog as much as you can. There are a number of ways that you can make money blogging and the quickest and easiest way is to put up some Adsense ads up on it, some people make a full time living from their blogs by doing just that.

The biggest advantage of paid adverts like Adsense is that you don’t have to get your visitors to buy anything so as to make money from them, if they click the ad, you get paid. If you want an additional way to make money blogging you should be trying to sell a product or service.

If you have your own product or service you can make far more money than you could by sending people to an affiliate site, for one thing you have more control, but on the plus side, as an affiliate you aren’t going to have to worry about taking care of the product delivery and customer service issues that you’d have when selling your own product.

There we have it, four things you need to be doing if you want to make money blogging.

Fresh content will keep you up in the search engine rankings, and keeps the blog traffic flowing. Knowing what people want to read about lets you target the right keywords and keeps the readers interested. Finally, take every opportunity to monetize your blog.

If you aren’t doing the above at the moment, it isn’t an irreparable situation; it may just take a bit of time on your part to put right. Once you’ve made the adjustments you could see staggering changes to the value you get out of each of the visitors to your blog. Take the time to do it now because, as they say, “time is money”.

Make the changes now and start to make money blogging.
