You’ll find that one of the big advantages of blogs, that isn’t often talked about, is the ease with which they can be submitted to RSS and blog directories. Why are so easy to submit? Because there are automated systems you can use to do it all for you.
All you need to do is to go to a site like pingomatic.com, add in some of the details about your blog, at it will ping your blog to all of the RSS and blog directories that you select. When you do it this way you should make sure that the title you use includes the keywords you want to rank well for, which is something you should be doing with the titles of your post, anyway.
If you want to save yourself some time, then check to see if WordPress is pinging for you. If you go into the admin section of your WordPress blog, click on ‘settings’, then ‘writing’, and have a look at the section that says ‘update services’. In the box you should see: http://rpc.pingomatic.com. That means that WordPress is setup to notify pingomatic.com as soon as you publish a post, and pingomatic.com will then ping it for you. You can add other services to the list, and a great place to find some additional services is at: wordpress.org/Update_Services.
Doing it this way still won’t pick up all of the blog directories that are out there, there are hundreds, but it will take in a large proportion of the most important ones. If you want to target even more blog directories, which is always advisable, then have a look at: vilesilencer.com for a list of some other top ranking blog directories – at the moment the list includes the site’s page rank and Alexa rank. Unfortunately you’re probably going to have to submit your blog to these sites manually.
Traffic is always going to be a vitally part of any blogging campaign you’re running, so you should find the quickest and easiest, while still being effective, ways of getting it. One of the best ways is by pinging your latest posts so they’ll be sent to as many RSS and blog directories as possible. Take a few minutes to get WordPress to do as much of it for you as possible, then spend some time submitting them manually to other blog directories – if you want to make the most of your blog that is.
