Creating A Blogging Is Fantastico

by A.D Paterson on 02/09/2009

Setting up is easy enough to start with, especially if you have a hosting account with fantastico installed (all of the best hosting companies e.g. Host Monster, HostGater, and Go Daddy will have fantastico in the cpanel), a click of a button, input where you want it to be installed, add your login details, and you’re up and running. You can either have the blog as your actual website, in which case you’d create it in your root directory, or have it as an add on to your existing site, in which case you’d want to create a sub-directory i.e. /blog making the URL www.yoursitename/blog.

If you don’t have a domain name or hosting, and really don’t want to take the time to get it done (though it’s quick, easy, and relatively cheap to do) then there are a number of free blogs for you to use, such as the hosted ones at wordpress.org or blogger.com.

The wordpress one probably has more functionality than the others, but it pays to check around. You may also find that you can’t get the name that you want for your blog if it’s popular – or, of course, you may find it’s easier to get than if you tried to register it.

The best thing to do when you first get inside the wordpress admin area (to login it will always be the URL to your blog followed by wp-admin) is to have a look around and get familiar with what’s there before you start creating posts. The next thing to do was to find the settings that would make it all tick, track down the right plugins, set up an about me page, make the first post, and see what happened.

So here we go…
