You can try using google adplanner. Sign in, then if you search by audience in the tab at the top, you can categorise into blogging sites, then bring in top blog sites per market etc.

I use a product called Copernic Agent Professional to custom design search parameters that will list websites of different categories so you can see which ones are ranking highest and also use Google Page Rank to get a good idea of the websites success/traffic with just a glance.

Blog about current topics. If people do a web search and see you’re blogging on something they want to read about, then they might read your blog if they are looking for opinions and not hard news.

A really good,interesting, and a non boring blog will sell it self.
Once you see the hits on your blog start to rise, then you can place ads on it.
Be very careful, annoying ,pop up ,seizures introducing ads will drive away people
